Coco Chanel Perfume

Coco Chanel Perfume is one of the leading perfume houses today with world wide distribution of perfume whose main target market is the upper middle class. Coco Chanel perfume was started out in 1910 by Coco Chanel. The set up for the perfume house was a small room on Cambon Street in Paris. Coco Chanel Perfume House was at t his time known as Chanel Modes.

One of the first perfumes was Chanel No. 5. Created by Ernest Beaux, Chanel number 5 was presented to Coco as a sample among named according to their numbers. The perfumes were numbered one to twenty four. Out of the samples, Chanel chose No 5.As her collection was to be launched in May of the year which is the fifth month of the year, Chanel named it Chanel No.5 as a good luck charm. And Chanel No.5 it was. This saw the beginning of the world renowned perfume house. In the initial years, Chanel would draw out the bottles she wanted the perfume to be presented in and distribution of the perfumes was left upon a local businessman known as Pierre Wertheimer. Over the years several brands were made by the perfume house which include another numbered perfume Chanel No.19 by Henri Robert which was launched on her birthday 19th August 1970.Also launched were Pour Monsieur and Antaeus. Henri Robert also created other perfumes for the Coco Chanel Perfume range which include Christalle and Coco as homage to Coco Chanel upon her death.

In deciding the fragrances, Coco Chanel Perfume was supposed to have different character and move away from the then common fragrances which were mainly floral perfumes. The first perfume Chanel No. 5 had unique character made of aldehydes with some metallic quality but maintaining a distant floral quality to it. Different fragrances are used for making the perfumes ranging from jasmine, lily, ylang ylang neroli, oak moss, amber, vanilla and patchouli. Though the recipes are not divulged, many critics have tried to decipher what made the perfumes especially Chanel No.5 so popular and gave it its unique scent.

Due to her involvement and being a leader in fashion and the responsible for revolution of haute culture, Chanel made perfume that was as radical as her clothing designs. This greatly increased the popularity for the Coco Chanel Perfumes which were made available only in high end departmental stores and upscale malls. These were later to be made available in the first Chanel stores found in Ginza Tokyo.

Coco Chanel perfumes are available in stores and have a wider variety created over the years even after Coco Chanel died but have continued to increase in popularity due to their uniqueness and use of varied essence and flavors in creating them. This makes them a first choice for the classy woman due to their distinctive and highly pleasant scents. For consistency and unique scents only 3perfumers have been used to make the scents since its inception to date. These are Ernest Beaux who made the first few scents till the after the second world war and worked between 1920 to 1961, Henri Robert 1958-1987 and finally Jacques Polge 1978 to present. It is estimated that over ten million bottles of Coco Chanel perfumes are sold with one being sold at least after every ten seconds in a day making Coco Chanel one of the most successful perfume brands in the world.
